Quidam's View

Carnie Kid

On the Boardwalk between the Ferris wheel and a couple spots to grab a meal,

Lies an alley with a pleasant surprise.

A Fun House of Mirrors and a Tunnel of Love…

The perfect place for us tonight!

And on this boardwalk some teen works

Every summer for the past five years,

Turning cogs and tightening gears.

Never has he had a fling,

Or a one night stand or a,

“Summer thing.”

Until the day he saw…this…chick…

Admit two at a buck a piece…

Makes her happy even though it’s cheap.

Every night for four weeks straight…

She’s come to see him, and they’ve stayed too late…

They climb into the swan-shaped boat,

She grabs his arm, prays they stay afloat.

Into the Tunnel of Love they ride,

What happens the rest of the time?

A little laughing and a lot more kissing,

Then he realizes what they’re missing.

Into the Fun House full of mirrors,

He takes her hand and leads her on.

Working here for the past five summers…

Wishes this night would keep going on.

This summer job as the carnie kid,

Shown the ropes by his old man…

Finally gets a chance to give,

His love away to some cute chick.

The carnie kid and his first love,

Partyin’ at the Boardwalk…

Every day till the summer ends,

Then as always, solo…the carnie kid.
